I learned through the “Toquinho Project” how cooperating with the community and people can bring incredible results. In this project, I was able to lead and create an action to bring indigenous and African culture to the school of the Saco Grande community, which works with socially vulnerable children, during the month of Black Consciousness. We impacted more than 100 children with the project, which taught in a fun way about the peoples behind the games and the culture they carry with them.
The project presented the board games Butterfly, Mancala, and Jaguar Game together, respectively, about their origins from the African continent and Brazilian indigenous people. Then we taught how to make these games with accessible and reusable materials, and finally playing them with everyone!
